One thing I love about Solent University’s PR degree is the number of events they hold throughout the year. Not too long ago I blogged about the e-campaign in a day event which was a new and exciting experience for me. Last Wednesday I went along to their second event of this academic year, ‘Meet the Professionals’. This event, run by third year students, saw multiple professionals from the industry gather in the University for a chance to network with us students.
The evening started off with professionals, including Jason MacKenzie and Darren Northeast, speaking on PR and their experiences in the industry. Their insights were incredibly interesting and helpful. Afterwards, in a speed dating style, we moved from table to table chatting with various professionals from many different industries. As our first attempt at networking, you can guess we were incredibly nervous and were completely unsure about what we were doing. Thankfully our lecturers are lovely and helped us through the entire process. I definitely learnt a lot from this event, not only how to network but also about PR. We were given some great advice from previous Solent PR students who are now working in the industry as well as other professionals. Thank you to the organisers of this event for creating such a great evening for us students.
